JOOLA Perseus Line Explained: Pro V vs. Pro IV

JOOLA's Perseus shape is one of the most recognizable in the game, and it's available across a few different generations — the Pro IV and Pro V are the two most current, and the ones we get asked to compare most.

Perseus Pro V: The Latest

The Pro V is Ben Johns' current signature paddle. It runs JOOLA's patent-pending KineticFrame technology in the throat — a slimmer frame designed to flex and store momentum on the swing, then release it on contact for better ball placement. Rounded top corners keep the sweet spot centered while the elongated profile extends your reach at the kitchen line.

Specs: textured carbon fiber surface, 16mm or 14mm core, UPA-A and USAP certified, 16.5" x 7.5" frame, 12-month warranty with registration.

Perseus Pro IV: The Previous Generation

The Pro IV was also designed with Ben Johns and runs JOOLA's TechFlex Power (TFP) technology — built for precision, feel, and consistency. The 16mm core balances control and pop, with weight distribution tuned to reduce arm fatigue and add forgiveness on off-center hits. USAPA approved, UPA-A Pro certified, PBCoR .43 certified.

Which One Should You Get?

Both share the Perseus shape DNA and Ben Johns' input, so this comes down to generation and feel more than a clear upgrade path — the Pro V's KineticFrame throat is the newer technology, while the Pro IV remains a fully capable, tournament-ready paddle in its own right at a similar price point.

If you already play a Perseus paddle and are deciding whether to upgrade, the honest answer is: if your current paddle is performing for you, the Pro IV isn't holding you back. If you're buying new, the Pro V is the current flagship.
